The Republic of Belarus hosts the IAEA mission on Education and Training Appraisal in Radiation Protection and Safety (EduTA)
Among the issues planned for consideration is the possibility of conducting international postgraduate courses on radiation protection and safety at the International State Ecological Institute named after A.D. Sakharov of Belarusian State University.
The EduTA mission delegation comprises international experts as well as IAEA representatives and is led by Ms. Jenia Vassileva (Bulgaria). The EduTA team also consists of mission coordinator Mr. Andrea Luciani (IAEA), and experts Mr. Sotiris Economides (Greece) and Mr. Aleksandr Vodovatov (Russia). In the course of the event, they will conduct an expert appraisal aimed at identifying areas for improvement and assist the host country in developing an action plan to address the identified gaps.
Appraisal procedure includes three stages: a preparatory phase, during which relevant data is collected and the host member state completes a pre-appraisal questionnaire; the actual appraisal and the preparation of the final report.
Final report is issued after review and mutual agreement with the Belarusian side. It includes recommendations and an action plan with short-term improvements and long-term measures to strengthen the state’s capacity and capabilities in personnel training and education.
The mission will contribute to improving the national legal and regulatory framework for education and training in radiation protection and safety in accordance with the IAEA Safety Standards. It will also help to refine the country’s existing system for personnel training in this field and the approaches applied considering national needs to enhance overall competence.
The EduTA mission will continue until November 14, 2025.
